Hello Everyone,
There is about to be a post of these every day so if you don’t want to be bombarded, the time to unsubscribe is now.
This year, I am doing my poem a day a little differently. I am writing a new poem every day, and these blog posts will go more in-depth on the process.
The word from the random word generator was APPEAR
Here is the poem:
When you're lost it feels like you are constantly waiting for something to save you
to appear out of the darkness
and give you a sense of direction or closure.
To save you from yourself
But do you need to be saved?
Sometimes it's better to feel lost and work your way through the darkness
figuring out why it feels so dark in the first place.
Is it the shadows of hands interlocked, knelt on knees, and heads hung low whispering for different lives, health, prosperity like a chant?
Is it the echoes of the curves when I look at my body
inspecting it as though it is not a vessel, but just a commodity that is wrong?
It is not wrong.
What brings light to some dims others
So, I think I'll be lost for a while.
So…there are edits I would make, like knelt is about knees, but I like the aliteration. But ANYWAY…
This poem is very much about society and my views on religion. I feel like sometimes it is helpful for some people to have that as an outlet, but sometimes I feel as though religion can be used as an excuse for poor behavior. I am working through a lot of my feelings with religion, and I feel a little lost about it, to be honest. I don’t know if I’ll ever have the answers, or feel differently, but this poem kind of goes into that lost feeling.
