Hello everyone,

This year, I am doing my poem a day a little differently. I am writing a new poem every day, and these blog posts will go more in-depth on the process.

The word from the random word generator was LOOTING

Here is the poem:

We give and we give because we are taught that's what's right.
It is "we the people" after all.
But where is the justice?
When crimes are committed by the people in charge hands are not slapped or even put in handcuffs.
Is it only looting because we are poor?
I would like to steal power back
bring a world back that is less divided
that actually cares about you guessed it, we the people.
As we struggle to survive
as prices skyrocket
and wars are started that never should have in the first place
hatred spills from mouths with no reprucussions
and I just remember
we are the people.

I have never been so overtly political in my writing. The world is very scary, and this honestly portrays a lot of my fears. I feel like we have lost a sense of humanity, of caring, of community. I’m hoping we can build them back eventually.
