Hello everyone,

This year, I am doing my poem a day a little differently. I am writing a new poem every day, and these blog posts will go more in-depth on the process.

The word from the random word generator was LOOK

Here is the poem:

When you look do you really see?
I go by so many things on my day to day
I rarely "stop to smell the roses" as one says.
Most of my day is spent looking at screens
staring at them almost mindlessly
as my posture worsens at my desk.
I go on walks sometimes but they are solely focused on point A to point B.
I get worried about being away from my desk for too long.
Then I come home to more screens
entertaining ones this time, but still.
I don't often remember the people I come across on my commute or the birds I see.
When I look down sometimes I see pennies and pick them up.
But I don't think I'm really looking at anything
I think my routine has me in autopilot.
I'm working on figuring out how to turn that off.

This one reminds me of a song by The Band Camino that I really love called Look Up. Listen to it here. But I started thinking about all the things I see every single day and how little of it I remember because I am so focused on surviving, that I don’t take a second just to breathe. So this is my reminder to you, take a second to breathe.
