Highlight Show(s) of the Past Week

I saw 3 shows this week, and all of them were incredible. I saw 2 shows on Tuesday, one was in a backyard in Brooklyn and the other at Pete’s Candy Store. The backyard show was incredible; it was part of Nordista Freeze’s 50 shows, 50 states in 30 days. New York was show 41. The show started with Whitehall. I only knew one of their songs before the show, and I thought their set was great. There were guitar solos that had my jaw on the floor. I am excited to hear the music they come out with. Next was Big Girl. This was my first time hearing them; they are a lot more punk and hardcore than what I normally listen to. However, I really loved the vibe, and I was so impressed with the lead singer and how fast she could sing. The lyrics were packed in every song; my personal favorite was Split Ends, which will be released later. After Big Girl was Nordista Freeze, the energy in the crowd completely shifted. As he was traveling the US, he played a more acoustic set, and then had his friends come up for a more rock set. He climbed a tree and had a car interrupt a whistle solo. Greg Smith, the host of the event, then performed. His set was also more acoustic, but still rock and very fun. The final set in the backyard was Doolittle; they have become a new favorite for me. Their energy on stage was infectious, they have more of a rock punk sound, and they even crowd surfed, which made me nervous as the backyard was not even. The next show I saw was Gio at Pete’s Candy Store; his songs are like spoken word poetry mixed with delightful plucking of the guitar. It was an incredible show.
I loved Doolittle so much that I decided to see them at Night Club 101 on Thursday. There were 2 other bands on the set, Townies and Sunday Morning. Sunday Morning started off the night; they had great energy, and I loved their vibe. The one note I have is that the songs started to sound the same throughout the set. I am interested to see how they sound in the recordings. Townies were also great, but I missed a bit of their set, so I don’t feel qualified to say more.
Listen to them here: Whitehall, Big Girl, Nordista Freeze, Greg Smith, Doolittle, GIO, Sunday Morning, Townies
